Best path to learn data structures and algorithms as a beginner Posted: 02 May 2019 03:12 AM PDT Apologies if this has been asked a lot of times but i wanted some advice in my particular situation. I'm trying to learn back end web development, starting with Go as my first language (no experience with back-end so far). I've been really enjoying it so far but just like concepts of back-end i am also totally new to concepts like data structures, algorithms etc. What would be a good path for me to learn these? I explored the sub-reddit and found a lot of suggestions like: https://www.udemy.com/course/learn-data-structure-algorithms-with-java-interview/ But i'm really confused which one to choose because this is the first time i'm learning these concepts and I need to also learn about different data structures, big o notation etc. from the beginning. Also a lot these require knowledge of Java. Could someone help me with this? Also, is there any other better path that I can follow as a beginner? Note: If it's of any use, I currently have 1 year of experience with front end development in JS, Angular. [link] [comments]

Hey current working Front End Web Devs, Could you link a solid portfolio for reference? Posted: 02 May 2019 08:40 AM PDT I decided I wan't to become a Front End Web Developer and possibly do Full Stack down the road. Can you guys that are currently making a living off Front End Web Development link me your portfolio or a resource that shows what a solid portfolio looks like so I can get an idea where my goal posts are. Is there any tools or techniques you use now you wish you knew about when you started? [link] [comments]

Making a simple Vanilla JS app with Node.JS Express Posted: 02 May 2019 03:42 PM PDT I'm a noob and learned Rails/Active Record for all my backend needs. It's great for larger apps but I'd like something a little lighter for simple vanilla JS apps that need storage. Am I right in thinking the way to go is Node.JS Express and mySQL? Or do I only need Node? Sorry, just starting to learn node. [link] [comments]

Looking to move towards a career in UI/Web Design Posted: 02 May 2019 01:31 PM PDT I am currently a Business Analyst of three years at an IT consulting company. I have experienced multiple SDLCs and have realized that the part that engages me the most is the Design phase. I like my job a lot more when I am working with visuals and I am frustrated by how poor of a job my team as a whole seems to do at designing their pages and reports. It seems like they always choose the easy way out. I took Web Design and even Mobile App dev courses in High school, but that was years ago. I have started brushing up on HTML and CSS with Codecademy and FreeCodeCamp, and have downloaded Sketch on my Mac to start fiddling with the design of a Personal Brand site I intend to make. However, with no formal education in Web Development , a job title that doesn't exactly fit the bill, and no formal portfolio: I am unsure how to convince companies to invest in me. Should I pursue a master's degree in an appropriate field? Should I seek out certifications? Should I just continue to build a portfolio in my own time? Ideally I'd be in a position more focused on the visual design aspects and less on the coding, because the former has always been my strength. I appreciate what advice you can offer me, and I am happy to share more about my experience and goals if asked. [link] [comments]
Is redux common in React environments? Posted: 02 May 2019 01:18 PM PDT Hey all, is redux frequently used with react, in a professional environment? Like for a full time front end dev, do they use redux with react a lot? Just curious is all Thanks! [link] [comments]
iPhone creates a display problem Posted: 02 May 2019 01:13 PM PDT I'm having a little problem with my social media icons in my footer on iPhone only. Is it true that PHP is mainly used for small businesses? Posted: 02 May 2019 04:57 PM PDT The main reason why I started to learn PHP was for the fact that I knew that it was one of the most widely used languages on the web so I felt I would be more hireable if I learned the most popular language. However, 2 years ago I started to realize that a lot of web developer jobs were looking for ASP.net or java developers and not PHP developers. I also asked a recruiter what is the most widely used languages in companies and he said it was ASP.NET. Now, today I just watched a recent video explaining why corporations prefer to use Java and asp.net as opposed to php. Hearing this news a second time made me feel like I made the wrong decision. At this moment, I'm not a web developer and I'm still trying to get my foot in the door. I've been learning php on and off for about 3-4 years, but I'm thinking that I should try to transition into asp.net. The few job opportunities I did get with php paid very low, so I feel like it wouldn't be an issue if I learned these corporation popular languages. The problem is that it will feel like I just wasted several years of learning a language and now I have to start all over again. I don't know if I should just stick to PHP and try to become an expert at it or just do a 180 and learn asp.net because that would get me a better chance at landing a corporate job as opposed to php. I need some advice because I don't really know where to go with this [link] [comments]
Help with this webpage. Works after clearing cache but breaks on most subsequent refreshes. Posted: 02 May 2019 09:21 AM PDT Can someone help me figure out what's wrong with this page? https://www.bcbst.com/contact-us.page If you clear cache and hard refresh, the page works perfectly every time. If you then refresh, most of the time after that it will appear broken. Can someone help me figure out why? I don't understand it. EDIT: Troubleshoot in our beta environment if it's available externally as we already fixed one of the errors there. [link] [comments]

Can't load a JS file into my HTML, confused as to what's going on Posted: 02 May 2019 01:05 PM PDT I eventually want to make a chart, but I can't even get to loading a script file. I'm using Node.JS and Express, which is probably why this is failing. But I'm not sure how. In my app.js, I GET a html file: Then in my HTML file, I try to load a script JS file: The JS file only has a console.log in it for now. But it won't even get that far, because I get this error: Any ideas? I tried Googling, but haven't found a solution. [link] [comments]
Share your ADA Compliance Process Posted: 02 May 2019 04:18 PM PDT I know this topic has been covered in other threads but the information is a bit all over the place. I'm looking to create a thread for devs where we share our processes of ensuring sites we build are ADA Compliant. For the last few website builds I've scanned my websites using wave (https://wave.webaim.org) and then corrected any errors and warnings. Anyone have a better approach? I'd love to see how other devs are handling this on website builds. [link] [comments]

Beginner, need insight on token based authentication Posted: 02 May 2019 10:51 AM PDT I understand the general idea of token based authentication. A user submits their credentials to a server, middleware is used to create a token and the server responds with a new token for that user. The user has access to pages, and the functions you have exposed.
Great, but implementation wise I am pretty much in the dark, meaning I've seen a few ways, I have a decent idea how to create and store a token associated with a User server side .. using passportJS sessions ( and I'd like to be exposed to some more advanced methods such as this -> auth0 with electron article ) But as for moving the user to the next authenticated step/webpage, as for making each authenticated request I have no Idea how to do this? Like where do I store the token ? I don't want to store it in cookies or local storage as I've read this is not secure. How to I provide the token with even request? Im working personal Electron app which I would like to integrate authentication into, without using web storage , cookies etc. I would like to know the safest way to store tokens and understand what ways it could be done. How are Reddit posts displayed? Posted: 02 May 2019 10:27 AM PDT I'm beginning to see more and more sites adopt the same style. Is it referred to as anything? It seems to be an overlay on the screen, almost like a giant dialog box. Posts can be dismissed like a dialog box by clicking close or clicking outside the content area but the URL updates with the post info. [link] [comments]
Keep sentence from moving - typed.js Posted: 02 May 2019 02:00 PM PDT I'm using typed.js and wondering how I can stop the entire sentence from moving. As in, I want the beginning of the sentence that is changing to remain in the same spot, while the typed part changes. Right now, as the typed part gets added and deleted, it expands and contracts the entire line. any Suggestions? [link] [comments] |
