I can no longer trust godaddy

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 02:30 PM PST

On 01/04/15 I acquired a domain from godaddy to be used to provide service to a client.

Each year I paid godaddy ontime and in full.

Last week, godaddy informed me that someone else had taken my url, WITHOUT NOTICE, WITHOUT CONSENT, WITHOUT ANY INTERACTION WITH ME.

I have made FIVE calls to godaddy and sent three emails, including proof of the URL being purchased by me and belonging to me.

I have repeatedly told them that NO ONE was authorized to access, alter or port my URL.

This was a revenue URL for me, nearly $1,000 a month and godaddy just ported the URL to my customer and now refuses to undo it. They only advise they offer is:

"Any further dispute over the registration of the domain name(s) will need to be sent either to the registrant, through an ICANN-approved arbitration provider (http://www.icann.org/dndr/udrp/approved-providers.htm) or the court system. Per ICANN's UDRP, domain registrars are prohibited from becoming involved in domain disputes. If you file a dispute concerning the domain name(s), please forward a copy to courtdisputes@secureserver.net."

What are the best ways to deal with forum spam?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 11:55 AM PST

I'm making a small forum website for my friends game. it's a small community without moderators or admins. For example, some users decides to create hundreds of posts and hundreds of replies to a post thus spamming my forum. What are good ways to prevent that? One way to mitigate that would be to use Google reCAPTCHA, but I'd like to stay away from google and such companies for privacy concerns. What are other good ways to mitigate spam?

Anyone know of a method to transfer all of these domains in bulk? Is there a service provider that would do this?

CSS/JS animations - were is the documentation? Want to port them

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 02:11 PM PST

I am looking to port Javascript/CSS animations to general algorithms. This will allow me to 'bake' it out to generic movements in x,y coordinates in a given time. I've looked around to try and find a place where this is documented... But can't find anything. Where should I look to find these things?

Upcoming gaming community - Feedback appreciated

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 01:32 PM PST

Over the last couple of months I've been working on a gaming community called NXT ('Next').

I used to run a gaming clan when I was a kid and the nostalgia hit ..

The purpose of of NXT is to unite gamers across different genres whilst offering them a place to expose their own content (Such as Youtube and Twitch streams)

There is currently a lot of placeholder content and unfinished features but the core has been laid down.

I'd greatly appreciate if I could get some feedback from you guys, the development/staging environment can be found at https://dev.nxt.gg/

User registration and Twitch, Blizzard and Steam integration also works.

    Thank you!

Google picking up wrong pricing on my website

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 01:21 PM PST

Hey, so i'm having some issues. A website i help work on as had their google pla suspended. Apparently, the site is missing a schema on the site. In fact I've run the provided google data testing tools and it comes up as ' One of price or priceSpecification must be provided ', which doesn't make sense to me. What the hell does this mean?

    Noob Vue Js problem

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 01:15 PM PST

I am as noob as you can be to vue

So my question is I have a component that renders but it does not load the css style until the page gets refreshed.

it goes like this landingpage > login > dashboard

from what I can see in console it loads the files on landing page but then it looses them once it logs you in to the app and you have to refresh the page once you hit the dashboard for it to catch them again. I can upload it to github if that would be best

How to figure out who made these websites?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 09:07 AM PST

All these landing pages / websites seem to be made by the same company but I can't find anything in the source code that leads to who created them. What's the best way to figure that out?

Also can somebody explain why they all use the location in the url? As far as I know these are mostly used as Adwords landing pages not as the main website.

Any ideas on how to make a carousel go in an endless loop?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 08:54 AM PST

Any ideas on how to make a carousel go in an endless loop?

I'm kind of stumped on a problem, not sure whether should I recode the carousel script or is there a better way to do it.

It has to do with a layout design in which the carousel changes based on what resolution/device the user uses.

    • Mobile is a normal 1 column image layout.
    • Tablet portrait is a "demo reel" styled carousel with same image sizes (extends to edge)
    • Tablet landscape is similar but the centerpiece will be a bigger size.
    • As a reel needs to be edge to edge, the large screens will reveal more images.

    https://i.redd.it/pqsb7odwra121.gif

So far it is working well with me using CSS to control the layout and position using data attributes that javascript can update.Example html

    <div class="carousel" data-carousel-current="2" data-carousel-amt="5"> <div class="item"><img tag></div> ... </div>

    with css/scss like

    //mobile .item { width: 100%; } //tablet portrait @media (tablet-portrait~) { .carousel { display: flex;} .item { flex-grow: 1; position:relative; img { width: calc(100% - 20px); margin: auto; //for gutter of 20px left right } } @for $i from 1 through 30 { .carousel[data-carousel-amt="#{$i}"] { width: #{$i * 80vw}; } // to get 80% image blocks .carousel[data-carousel-current=#{$i}] { transform: translateX(#{(1- $i) * 80vw}); } //sliding animation } } ..so on and forth

Now the headache part. My client asked if the carousel can be an endless carousel (meaning it loops back to the 1st/last item when it ends), in both directions How do I go about doing this? This method with using data attributes to control layout and position can't really work with endless carousel??

Do I need to rewrite my codes and use JS to get the positions of each item instead?

What is the best workflow for a site with a simple database, profiles, and log-in?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 12:13 PM PST

The site I'm building will be for about 500 people. Currently, I'm only familiar with HTML/CSS, however the site I'm building needs:

    1.) Log-in

    2.) User-Profile Creation

3.) A database where the 500 users list things they are either "buying" or "selling."

Would you recommend I use Wordpress to host it? Or do it entirely on my own? If so, would you recommend using MAMP for my Mac and use the PHP/MySql as I go?

Additionally, two other people are programming the Apple/Android versions of the site for mobile? How exactly do I integrate the same databases and profiles for the three applications? (WebApp, Android, Apple)

If someone could actually outline a rough process for the entire creation I'll be extremely satisfied and personally inbox you and tell you how amazing you are.

    Thanks!

Starting to wonder why I was hired after first week of listening in

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 12:01 PM PST

I graduated college back in May and got a job out of college that was actually an "internship" doing web development. I learned on the go, but it wasn't TOO hard looking back on it. However, after 6.5 months of still making $15/hr and HR taking their time with "processing your FT offer" I left. The job mainly entailed using JQuery/XML/HTML stack as a MVC, but as I learned webdev on the go I learned some of the things that people realized over the past 4-5 years of modern dev. Therefore, by the time I left, I upgraded the project I was on to using React/Redux, implementing dev/production environments with task runners, and made build scripts from what I learned. I hit road bumps like everyone else has over the past 5-6 years so it gave me a quick summary to learn modern dev.

After interviewing for a few places, I was offered a FT job as a developer for more than double as a salary with benefits. The process was taking a coding test where you complete a small react app with API integrated in 60min. Overall it was a simple problem, and I completed it in 60min. The next part was the interview, which was the hardest interview I've had because they asked very specific questions and asked me to explain exactly what I do at my old job and questions about JS like object destructuring and other specifics. I answered most of them correctly, but there was 2-3 that I wasn't 100% sure and was honest and said "not too sure tbh, I haven't heard of that topic yet". They really pressured me to "get more detailed about____ and explain further" since they were smart devs

I then got a call a week later from the recruiter saying that they "were impressed from your interview and wanted to extent and offer…"

This was my first week, on Monday just orientation. Since then I haven't done anything, just submitted tickets for account access but I'm just waiting and completing some onboarding stuff and listening into meetings. But listening in, I have no idea why I was the one that was hired. It's a bigger company that is well known with good benefits, so it can't be that I was the only one that applied.

I didn't lie or exaggerate anything on my resume or interview, and they even asked the most specific questions. But its not as simple as coding react/redux apps with node.js backend connecting to a mongodb with advanced scss. Instead based on what I've seen, it's a huge gigantic file structure combining different technologies like react and ejs together, and this is all in a huge environment that uses a CMS, has 3-4 different staging areas with Heroku and github,.Then looking at upcoming tasks, they seem way more complex than I would have expected.

i.e. "updating the build environments in Heroku to automatically rebuild when the CMS updates, then to send a notification to your skype to tell you that Heroku has completed and is live."

I haven't used every single technology. I have to learn not only the architecture of the app, but the CMS/back end language/how Heroku/github works together and just the app as a whole.

I feel like I'm going to need to spend the weekend learning all those things the best I can before Monday when I actually get the code for the first time, that way I'm not a mile behind. But idk what to do since I'm starting to doubt why they thought I was qualified to make such a big leap. Maybe they didn't realize I was literally making $15/hr?
