Hi, I make music that I'm giving away for free under a Creative Commons attribution license. Feel free to use them however you like! All of the Soundcloud links have downloadable wav files, if anything runs out of available downloads let me know and I can post mediafire links as well.

I arranged these sort of by tone/style to make it easier to look through:

Quaternions are hard to understand, this video helped me at least understand where they come from!

    I reached 100+ games developed!

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 01:59 PM PDT

Showcase video of all the projects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_9nJ5XgjWw

I started my game creation path around 10 years ago when I was 18 and I've been making games actively since 2011. I've also participated for one game a month challenge for almost six years now, without missing a month. I usually do game jams, but I've done couple of longer projects as well. Here are some interesting stats from the years:

    • 10 years of game development
    • 4 years of professional work
    • 6 years of one game a month
    • 68 game jams
    • 34 solo projects
    • 3 commercial releases
    • 11 countries on 4 continents
    • 14 platforms from nes to vr
    • 15 engines/frameworks
    • 600km of cycling

I hope this inspires other people to make awesome games as well! I started with GameMaker and zero knowledge of programming, now I work at Varjo making the world's most advanced vr headset. Its all thanks to these games. Being persistent will take you far!

Equilinox Game Trailer - with vlogs of development

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 06:18 PM PDT

I just wanted to share the work of a youtuber I really admire. He posts vlogs of the game's development and they're always fun to watch. His game Equilinox is launching on steam later this month.

When a game on steam have more visits from non-English-speaking countries

    Posted: 03 Nov 2018 04:41 AM PDT

It is very strange google analytics shows most of the visitors are from German and French speaking countries. The game does not have much text(at best menu level text), so language is unlikely the reason. Has anyone been in similar situation? Ideas?

Aspiring game developer here; going through a severe phase of depression....

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 04:28 PM PDT

    Hello :)

Thanks for just hearing me out here. I have recently graduated with a degree in Bachelors in Computer Science. I always dreamt of being a game developer some day and worked on many games during my bachelors. My country doesn't really have much game studios where I can apply so after my degree, I tried to apply to some indie studios (in foreign countries) but had no luck. I think my portfolio wasn't good enough to even get into the interview phase, or maybe companies can't afford relocating a guy from other country.

So there I am unemployed trying to build up my portfolio. But let me tell you one thing, when you have a degree at hand, after 4 years of constant struggle from your parents side and you're just sitting there with no job, really fills up that depression in your mind. It has been 2 months and all I have noticed is that I haven't done much progress. I wake up late (like really late), at about 2-3 pm, depressed; having no motivation to do anything.

Few days back I decided that I should really apply for a job (maybe that would help) and so I found one company that works on building game texture software (kind of like substance designer). It isn't really game dev but I am really desperate here so anything related to game dev would help. But I felt like I have one shot at this and I should probably prepare for the interview ahead. So now I'm preparing myself for interview related questions, practicing everyday while also working on game dev projects, but every now and then, this depression strikes again. Some days I am not able to write even a single script of code just waiting for the day to end. It has been a month since I decided to apply for that company and I haven't really applied just terrified of the fact that I may get rejected in the interview phase or the phase up next.

I feel like some of you game dev friends may have gone through a similar phase. What did you guys do during these times? How did you cope up with that tension building up in your mind? Desperately in need of any advice..

How do I make Ivies, vines, etc?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2018 11:26 AM PDT

Hi! Recently I was watching some speed level design and I wonder how they make Ivies and vines for their scenes.
For example, do they model each Vine/Ivy for an specific object [For the sake of the question let's say an Ivy is wrapping some sphere]? or maybe they model some variations of their vines and then place them into their scene rotating them and scaling them

Retro sounds for non retro-looking game?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2018 07:40 AM PDT

What I mean by retro is.. Well the generated sounds you get from bfxr and bosca ceoil.

I don't have any experience on audio related stuff. So is it okay if I use that type of audio?

If you can give me links where to find free to use sound effects for games I'd really appreciate it!

Xbox and PlayStation controller button prompts pack

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 04:38 PM PDT

Hey, everyone. I'm typing this on mobile, so please forgive any errors.

I found that most pre-made packs on the internet to not look very good, at least to my tastes. So I made my own, in a clean, consistent style.

    Here's the link: https://www.deviantart.com/ethan-white1603/art/PlayStation-and-Xbox-controller-button-prompts-770821205

Please read the description on the deviation :)

Hopefully you will find this useful. No credit is required, although it is nice.

Please use this pack for whatever you like, there is no fee. There is, however, a donation link in the description of the deviation, for if you liked the pack and would like to buy me a drink. :)

    Enjoy!

    Normalizing a Vector

    Posted: 03 Nov 2018 10:23 AM PDT

I'm creating a physics engine where the normals of the shapes within the world would be calculated upon their creation, so they can be accessed when need be. Should I worry about using square root for the normalization, or will it not really be an issue since they're only calculated on creation of the shapes?

My computer will only recognize one Kinect at a time?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2018 09:15 AM PDT

I'm trying to get a motion capture studio started, I have an an iphone X for facial mocap (haven't 3D printed the helmet yet), and 2 Xbox One Kinects (modified to work on PC).
Each Kinect works individually, but when I have them both plugged in, only one will work.
Anybody have any idea how I can get both running at the same time?? I've searched high and low, and I haven't seen anybody else with this problem.
    Thanks for your help.

What to reveal about past events in a game set after a not yet released game?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2018 09:12 AM PDT

I currently have 2 close to finished game concepts (including plot of course), both in the same world but one of them is Cyberpunk (~100 years from now), and the other is set in the Kamakura Era of Japan, in which lived samurai. I would like to start with the cyberpunk game, but I think I will need to explain some of the history of this world for the player to have good understanding of why he's fighting, and where he's from. The issue here is just how much of the past I reveal, as I would rather not give away the whole plot of the other game. Or is that okay?

Offering my music royalty free to be used in your games - Read for details

    Posted: 02 Nov 2018 05:31 PM PDT

    Hi there.

I don't know how difficult or easy it is for you folks to find music for your games (if you need any).

As the titles suggests, I am offering my music to be used by you hard working game devs. No cost and royalty free. All I ask in return is just for credit (and possibly link to my work if applicable). But please contact me and let me know which track you want to use for what kind of game.

No catch. I'm just looking for exposure for my music. And I've been told that some of my stuff sounds like a good fit for video games. Here are 2 of my albums (genre is LoFi hip hop).

https://open.spotify.com/album/0QCp1CITMU3m9c4g1Ijhx7 - I've been told "Tears of Fake Joy" and "Tears of True Pain" sounds like music from an RPG game.

All you have to do is contact me and let me know which piece of music you want to use and for what kind of game you are making. Some of my music has vocals which may not be fitting, but if you like the music I can send you a loopable version without vocals. If you want to use a piece of my music exclusively then I will have to ask for a small flat fee. Otherwise like mentioned before it's all free!

And if you like the kind of music I make and want me to make something entirely new and original for your game don't hesitate to contact me to discuss.

Edit: Youtube and Soundcloud links added.
