Vice did an article on my facebook data "poison" script and now it seems like facebook is blocking the article from being shared

    Posted: 28 Mar 2018 12:36 PM PDT

    See the original post here

Vice contacted me about doing a little article about why I wrote that script to purge/obfuscate/poison your facebook status data before deleting your account. It was a nice interview, the reporter was professional and considerate.

Read the Vice Motherboard article here

Not soon after the article went live, I noticed that that facebook is actually blocking the ability to share the article :

I suppose logically, facebook wouldn't want their own platform to be used against the #deletefacebook momentum? Confused!

    Do users actually use "Tours"?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2018 09:04 AM PDT

I'm working on an application that has a form builder, among other sections, that is slightly complicated. Afterwards someone suggested that we build one of those modal "Guided Tours". None of us wanted to build it, because we all hate them.

Do any of you have actual data on whether or not users actually use tours like that? Is it worth the effort?

Planning on starting a freelance job as a web dev

    Posted: 28 Mar 2018 03:39 PM PDT

Hello guys! Need a lil help here. I've had 2 years of experience in html, css, Javascript, php and some other popular framework(not the big boys level). I would like to start working as a freelancer. I'd be glad if someone could share an idea, resources, or even where to start. Nothing is too little 🙂

Am I making a terrible choice by branching out from Java EE to Full Stack React + Ruby/Node?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2018 03:46 AM PDT

Worked 2.5 years developing enterprise applications using Java. Looking to broaden my skillset by learning front end as well as other back-end frameworks.

Thinking of joining this company that uses React + Ruby + Node. Basically I want the exposure to see how things are being done by other companies out there in the industry. I want to be familiar with the full stack of web development so I can lead a team in the future and I can make the right choice of language and framework to use.

My only worry is that maybe 3 years down the road, I decide I want to get a job at a big MNC to build some enterprise system and I'll be rejected because Java is no longer my primary domain.

Am I committing career suicide by branching out to learn different stuff instead of focusing directly on Java? Should I give up this chance with the new company and just look for a regular normal Java backend job?

Have some concerns, looking for advice.

    Posted: 28 Mar 2018 02:33 PM PDT

So, I'm worrying and I don't know if it's me being dramatic and over-thinking everything or there's actually cause for concern.

About two years ago I started working for a very good salesman. He had a good idea for an app and already had a team in place. Guy is a multimillionaire, so obviously has done well in the past.

There's been a lot of trouble over the last 2 years trying to get everything running. Mainly due to his hiring of cheap foreign labour where everything written needs rewritten or replaced. I've been trying to push for senior devs, but mainly its just juniors and 1 senior js dev.

Now, he's been promising for a while that we're going to grow and we seem to be constantly interviewing senior devs that never amount to anything.

We hired a guy that dealt with one of the gaming companies and used to manage a team of 70s devs. He stormed out after 2 weeks. He had very bad things to say when I spoke to him afterwards which matched my own thoughts.

The app is in a midway state, between old and new. There's 0 functionality in terms of his marketing material (which is amazing btw). Not much design and ui as we like to skip over everything for 'quick wins' and expect fully mature features to be ready in a week.

We have 1 client who seems to be dictating the timelines of features and apparently we have 2 more huge customers joining us.

WE DO NOT HAVE AN APP THAT IS CAPABLE OF DOING ANYTHING IN HIS MARKETING MATERIAL. IT'S A REALLY BAD APP.

We're talking about pasting other apps inside an iframe and calling it integration. Yes, really!!!

He's in the middle of listing on a local stock exchange to try and secure 5mil of funding 'to grow'.

We have just won a local award for best b2b application!

How is this possible with 1/10 of a product and 1 client abroad? There's 0 chance of someone voting for it.

I seem to be the only person worrying about this. The others are partying and I politely declined to go.

I'm starting to think the whole thing is just a scam to get money from this listing. Maybe the award was paid for?

Or maybe I'm just a negative asshole.

Am I crazy? Can someone shed some light on what the hell is going on?

What can I do besides applying for jobs using LinkedIn and Indeed to land my first job?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2018 02:21 PM PDT

I've spent months applying for both entry-level and junior positions.

    I'm a senior CS student with a 3.6.

I have projects outside of school using vanilla JS, React, React + Express, React-Redux + Express.

I live in San Francisco and am willing to relocate anywhere in the Bay Area.

However, I still can't find anything. It's hard for me to use contacts because none of my close friends or family members are tech workers. Should I just keep using Indeed and LinkedIn and hope that I eventually get an interview?

People who were in my position. What advice would you give me? Thanks.

Frontend micro services, what do you use?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2018 01:50 PM PDT

I've thought about breaking down a monolithic frontend into frontend micro services. There are a few big ones I've found, such as Zalando's Mosaic, but was wondering what others have used, what have been the benefits and drawbacks of your choices?

Do Wildcard SSL Certs cover addon domains?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2018 01:15 PM PDT

Pretty much the title, I believe addon domains are basically sitename.maindomain.com and thus are sub-domains which i believe are covered by wildcard ssl certs but i'm doubting my understanding a bit in this regard. Thanks for the help in advance.

Trying to decide between A2 Hosting & Siteground

    Posted: 28 Mar 2018 01:02 PM PDT

NEVER MIND - I posted in the wrong subreddit. I'll post to webhosting!

What do you guys think? If not these 2, any other recommendations? I am creating a blog with links to youtube videos unless I can get a good site that can support the embedded videos. It would be ideal if it's good for wordpress too. I've done a ton of research all day, and I'm feeling overwhelmed. But I think I've narrowed it down to A2 Hosting and Siteground. I'm not a coder, so I think Vultr isn't what I should be striving for, right? Also, I'm staying away from the EIG websites.
