Did anybody here not go to college? How hard was it to find a job? Posted: 23 Feb 2018 01:28 AM PST Edit: For anybody wondering, I've been trying college for about 4 years. I started off in English and then eventually switched to IT once I realized I was interested in Web Dev. I'm just having a really hard time going to class/doing homework. I LOVE my classes. The topics really interests me and sometimes the homework is really fun to do, but I suffer from a lot of anxiety/depression and yesterday I kind of broke down and just thinking about going to school is stressing me out inordinate amounts. This is about the third time this has happened in my college career. I never get this way about work. Right now I'm a part time Student Web Developer. I manage 10-15 websites with one Co worker on WordPress. I'm Utah based. [link] [comments]

Are macs still the cool laptops to get for devs? Also, general dev laptop suggestions? Posted: 23 Feb 2018 09:28 AM PST I'm looking to get a laptop. I replaced my old Windows laptop with a desktop last year, but I'd like to be able to go places on the weekend and do whatever side project I have at the time. I've never used Mac but it seems to still be the hip choice among coffee shop devs. Is it worth whatever muscle memory pains switching OS will cause? Will being comfortable on OSX help in the future? At work now we are all Windows but that might not always be the case for me obviously. If you think I should stay on Windows, will you recommend some laptops? It will only be used for dev work since I have gaming PC at home. also- full stack, if that matters. [link] [comments]

How can a site still track me? Posted: 23 Feb 2018 01:25 PM PST After accessing X number of features a site offers me membership to access them again. So I delete browsing history of FF, saved data, basically everything FF offers. I check cookies in dev tools, but there are never any. Then I reconnect my modem to get a new IP. Yet after opening a new tab with the same URL, I'm back at square 1. [link] [comments]
Zooming in on a map 'free key' Posted: 23 Feb 2018 03:05 PM PST I was asked as part of a brief to allow users to zoom in on a map 'Free Key'? I assume this means with the keys restricting the window scroll on the key down or up button? I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this? I've been developing full time for about 18 months now but this ones stumped me. Any thoughts? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Feb 2018 11:02 PM PST I've heard of something called GitHub but I don't know if it does what I think it does... is there a way to backup all my source files online for safekeeping or am I supposed to use Dropbox or something similar. [link] [comments]
Show Password vulnerabilities? I can see other peoples passwords... Posted: 23 Feb 2018 11:30 AM PST I borrowed a friends computer to check a miscellaneous bill, i noticed it now has the awesome 'show password' to ensure you dont type the wrong one. I clicked it without thinking to give it a twirl, and sure enough i was greeted by my friends password. It seems if you don't delete the previous password it will go ahead and show it to you. I am sure its not every instance, but this seems like a lack of foresight? [link] [comments]

Using .NET Core as a backend to my angular 5 project Posted: 23 Feb 2018 07:03 AM PST Howdy folks. So I'm looking into coding a blog. I'd like to write the front end using my newly acquired Angular skills and I'm looking into my options for the backend. I have a little experience using ASP.NET MVC and NET Core with C# in the past. The problem is I'm only familiar using them as full frameworks (front and backend code). This time I'd like to only use it for my database and all the backend calls. From what I've been able to gather the way to do this is using API controllers. Does anybody have experience using .NET core as JUST the backend? If you do could you possibly point me to any resources that could be helpful so I can get everything hooked up correctly? [link] [comments]

How blockchain can be applied to other applications other than Bitcoin? Posted: 23 Feb 2018 12:20 PM PST I see this "blockchain" buzzword a lot recently and from what I understand it's used to create "unhackable contracts" for bitcoin transactions. But I don't think a lot of companies are dealing with bitcoins yet I notice they hire people who understand "blockchain". So it must be that there are other applications for it, right? What are they? CSS framework without any classes? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:18 PM PST I'm looking for a css framework that has no classes and simply makes a raw html document pretty. Basically things like body width, font, spacing, color, etc. Any help? [link] [comments]
[Question] Should I invest in a Macbook Pro Posted: 23 Feb 2018 12:12 AM PST I'm a Frontend Developer focusing on frameworks such as Angular and React. Program in JavaScript and also design mockups in Photoshop and such. Currently I'm using a pretty normal HP laptop loaded with Ubuntu. Multitasking, running webpack, and so on together seems to slow the system down. So should I upgrade to a laptop with SSD, latest processor and good graphic card and dual boot with Windows (for photoshop), Ubuntu (for UNIX terminal) or should I go for a Macbook Pro? Considering that Macbook Pro in India is way way more expensive than any other PCs. [link] [comments]
Is Docker/virtualization mandatory? Posted: 23 Feb 2018 01:58 PM PST I've been late in learning how to Docker/virtualize. I tried Vagrant a few years ago but my machine was really slow so I scrapped it. With a faster machine now but I never got to studying these technologies. I've just watched a few videos but are these things used in your companies? Moving forward are they big components of the web dev toolkit? [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Feb 2018 01:52 PM PST Do you know any free API that allows me to get this info and store it into a database? Google Places doesn't allow you to save the info into a database. [link] [comments] |
