Posted: 16 Feb 2021 03:41 PM PST I just don't get the need. Does it really serve a purpose or is it just about creating an AOL-style walled garden of an internet? Personally I leave a site once the AMP version loads. [link] [comments]

What is the difference between mySQL and PostgreSQL Posted: 16 Feb 2021 10:00 AM PST Im new to web dev and still learning. I can't wrap my head around the purpose of different database management systems. Is it like VS code vs Atom where it doesn't matter which you use? Since mySQL and PostgreSQL both use SQL. Why choose one over the other. It makes no sense to me. Thank you for your help. [link] [comments]

Does this seem like a difficult interview test? Posted: 16 Feb 2021 12:50 PM PST I've received a coding challenge to complete as part of an interview process for a mid-level front-end developer and been asked to complete the following task; *Use your initiative and solve it in the best way you think you can. The idea is to demonstrate your skills by building a small application (using React) which produces a target figure from a CSV file containing several numbers. Create a CSV file with the following numbers: 3, 4, 8, 7, 12 The target number is 532 but should be allowed to change. - You may only use (),+,-,*,/ - You can use each symbol many times - You can only use each number once - You do not need to use all the numbers The app must be able to handle the file upload and temporary storage of the CSV file. It must parse the CSV to extract the numbers. You need to build a processor to take the numbers and calculate the equation to the target number from them. When we come to test this, we will also use different numbers to check the process.* the second part seems to expect a good level of understanding of algorithms (and recursion) to be able to solve, which seems like a high bar for a role of this kind? Thoughts? [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2021 04:04 PM PST Are there any good chart libraries for JavaScript? I need one that is specifically geared towards:- A Bar Graph (Column)- The max line (top) is indicated at a 100% mark; so it's based on percentages- Each bar will have 2 segments- The color of the bar can change real time- There is also a third segment that only expands if the segmenting line gets past 100%- Each Bars location is variable and editable and can be updated real time Sorry for the bad quality photo but hopefully you get my drift. Also I usually use React but if you know of something that works with vanilla JS then that's okay too! [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2021 04:03 PM PST 1) In before it gets spammed in the comments. NO I'm not going to copy the work to use it. I am designed my future wife an engagement ring. After spending hours looking at rings I thought, "hey I use CAD at work. I can make something personal". I have a new respect for artist. I want to take the animation/images off the website, run it through another program to create an .STL file, so I can use sections as a base for my design. I've tried to look at the "developer tools/F12" in chrome. I found the base image but do not understand the code they are using to generate the animation. any help would be appreciated. reference site is https://www.jamesallen.com/gemstone-rings/sapphire-engagement-rings/1.13-carat-vintage-engagement-ring-1745424?cur=USD&gclid=CjwKCAiAjeSABhAPEiwAqfxURdeYxIWGQ7Ff_rYXdxlbGZA43zdcQjSgVwUTA27LiGzynZbS-X7a5RoC5SoQAvD_BwE [link] [comments]

Should I mention this on my CV? Posted: 16 Feb 2021 03:11 PM PST I am a fresh grad from uni. So i have limited work experience.. Mostly internships and freelance work. A company recently hired me to create a website for them where students can chat with university representatives. This was a biggg step up for me and i really think it would look good on my cv. My only issue is, the company assigned the project to me in the end of January. It took me 2 weeks of working 24/7 to create that website for them. So u can say they only hired me for 2 weeks to complete this work. Very unprofessional of them considering it was a loooot of work but ah well.. I want to include this on my CV but i am worried that companies would be turned off by reading that i only worked for them for 2 weeks. I dont know how to include this on my CV.. Any suggestions? Should i mention this under work experiences? [link] [comments]
Help With Making Chrome Extension Posted: 16 Feb 2021 03:03 PM PST EDIT: Skip to the video at the bottom of the github issue for an immediately clear picture of what I am talking about I just started working on this chrome extension and hit a snag right after setting up my environment. The popup window is super laggy and unresponsive. It seems like I click and nothing really happens at all. I have no idea what the cause is, and I am hoping that someone with chrome extensions can help me or identify what is going on. I posted the nitty gritty details on GitHub because I can show code snippets and everything easily: https://github.com/jdevries3133/g_classroom_mass_delete/issues/1 Thank you, and insight is much appreciated. What's your frustration with integrating payment workflows? Posted: 16 Feb 2021 02:52 PM PST For me, it's the whole process of taking the time to read the documentation, picking a client library for your language, testing the integration, managing keys for different environments, and deploying to production. I just want to get back to my core app, and not spend time doing integrations for operations. Stripe now supports all sorts of payment workflows besides the simple one-time credit card payment, such as subscriptions, metered billing, and transactions in a 3-sided marketplace (like DoorDash), which can get complicated. I'm making a low-code payment workflow builder. It helps you integrate with Stripe to gather payment from customers. The builder let you drag 'n drop processing steps together to build a payment workflow of any complexity supported by Stripe. If you need to customize, you can drop down to the low level code. Once you're satisfied with the flow, you can deploy it to serverlessly with a click of a button. This separates business operations like payment workflows separate from your app. It shouldn't require a git commit to change payment confirmation emails and pricing structures. I have a bare prototype working, but before going too much further, I wanted to start talking to people to see that I'm on the right track. What are your frustrations and experiences with integrating payment workflows? Is this something that is a problem that you'd like taken care of for your next project(s)? I plan on posting updates and notifying people about the beta at the bottom of this page: https://paymentworkflowbeta.substack.com/p/coming-soon [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2021 08:47 AM PST I've always used "... side scripting" but recently someone said to me that nobody used these terms and that they were wrong in some way, without knowing how to explain why. So I go curious and dit some research on this subject but wasn't able to find anything relevant. What's you take on this? [link] [comments]

How much to charge for JavaScript animations? Posted: 16 Feb 2021 08:37 AM PST I work at a small development studio that primarily develops custom Wordpress sites. We do not use page builders and only build from scratch. We have a modern stack of using svelte components with webpack roll up configs and custom html and css while integrating with WP. We have an interior design studio client that we just designed a badass homepage design for and sold the client on animating one particular section. It would involve using some sort of JS library and making vector shapes come in and out, rotate and text showing up and moving around. No interactive elements, just purely animation that would probably last 15-20 seconds. My challenge is two fold 1. We haven't done a lot of custom animation like this before. We are familiar with libraries and developing specific text animations or other subtle animation elements like parallax. 2. I can't figure out how to quote this. I estimated it would take 12 hours but most likely it would take realistically closer to 20 hours to get it just right. And that's just a guess. I don't want to price ourselves out of it because it's something we want to do more of but I don't want to devalue the project at hand. Is there an industry standard pricing for this? Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2021 08:27 AM PST Hello! I am currently building an e-commerce site for a client using woocommerce. This is my first client and I just want to know how to ensure that they can maintain the site themselves after launch. Should I use a website builder? Personally I prefer not to use site builders but Im thinking it will be hard maintenance-wise especially if the client has no technical background. Also, any tips for first time building a woocommerce site is appreciated! [link] [comments]
Headless CMS + E-Commerce Solution? Posted: 16 Feb 2021 08:20 AM PST I'm looking for a headless CMS that has a built-in e-commerce solution with one login if possible. Anyone know of anything that fits that requirement? I'm assuming I could use a separate headless CMS and e-commerce solution (e.g. Sanity + Saleor, etc.), but then the client wouldn't be able to modify both store/product content and general site content in the same place (unless there was a plugin or I built some sort of importer to connect the services). Are there some headless e-commerce solutions that can act as a general site CMS as well outside of the store/products? EDIT:It looks like the consensus is to keep your CMS and e-commerce solution separate?
If this is the case, is there a way I can link the data between the CMS products and a particular e-commerce solution? I would like the client to be able to edit everything directly in the CMS, including the products/store, and have that reflect on the e-commerce side. [link] [comments]

Debating with my co-workers about <img /> Posted: 16 Feb 2021 01:24 PM PST Hey guys, My co-workers and I keep having this friendly debate and I'm curious to your opinions. I write <img> and they write <img /> They claim their way is faster when it comes to processing, which might be true, but I'm not sure. Research on this would be helpful, if you have some. I was taught it was optional and not to use it. Thoughts? Concerns? Should I tell them to seek therapy? [link] [comments]
Create website online indicator? Posted: 16 Feb 2021 01:04 PM PST Hi, Experienced programmer here (python, powershell, bash, etc.), but noob to web dev, looking to develop an indicator on my website that lets visitors know when a youtube channel is live streaming. Desired result: The problem I'm running into is in the logic - what I assume to be javascript, but it's likely I don't have a clue what's going on. I've taken some scraps from across the web and tried to piece them together but my head hurts at this point. In the end, the logic should read something like this: ```If https://www.youtube.com/user/vikkstar123/live status == 200 { It should be a self contained HTML element using <style> and <script> tags. I appreciate any help anybody can provide! Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Feb 2021 05:02 PM PST So a bit of context - I'm a bootcamp grad looking for my first web dev job, and I'm learning TypeScript to differentiate myself from every other bootcamp grad...because there's a shitload of us. Question is, at what point can I say I've learned TypeScript and add it to my CV? My process for learning new tech is this: -Complete a tutorial (either udemy or a new ninja youtube series, for example). -Build a simple app using the tech (eg a todo or review app) -Apply the tech to my ongoing main project, a full stack React-Redux-Firebase gig guide. I feel that once I've applied the tech to a fairly complicated project, with lots of moving parts, then I can claim to know it well enough to justify putting it on my CV. Thoughts? For a senior dev/employer, would this qualify as basic competence with a piece of tech? Cheers [link] [comments] |
