What is going on on this (presumably) fake plagiarism site? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 07:44 PM PST I posted this on r/Scams as well, but thought maybe someone here could help clarify for me. What is actually going on with this website that purports to be a plagiarism checker? It says it accepts some 1000s of words but maxes out at 900, does nothing to the text, and makes you fill a google captcha. It also says it uses AI, but from what I can tell changes nothing in the text. https://www.plagiarism-remover.com/ Is there a use they may have in making you fill google captchas on their own site? I apologize if this is slightly off topic for this reddit, just thought I would ask if there is something shady going on from a tech perspective with the page itself. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2020 07:37 PM PST Hey I'm teaching my self swift through a course on Udemy and I understand everything that I'm learning I just don't know how to use it for myself or by myself. Does anyone have any tips or any idea of what I'm doing wrong and what I could be doing to help me grasp the material for personal use? [link] [comments] |

I wrote unit tests, how should I be using them when refactoring/bug fixes. Posted: 02 Nov 2020 05:12 PM PST Rewriting code that is extremely slow and has an infinite loop. (No comments doesn't help) So I have the luxury of starting from scratch, and I wrote a (bunch of) unit tests. Will I be waiting until my program "works" to run unit tests? Or will there be reasons to use sooner? Link's to wikipedia also appreciated [link] [comments] |

Can i write a software on Kindle ebook reader? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:18 AM PST Hello guys, i am using kindle paperwhite and i was wondering if its possible to write a software that takes all the parts of my books that i highlighted and pastes in a document (possibly with some details about the book next to it). I think it would be pretty cool bc i always highlight my favorite parts and i really like looking up those short sections after i finish the book. I dont think its possible but a guy can dream. How do you debug (purposely) infinite loops? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:02 PM PST Working on 2 apps that both have an infinite loop, 1 is essentially a timer, the other is a simple game. Logging/console of any sort kinda sucks since it could be 100's of messages to weed through to find the issue. Currently what I'm doing. Any other suggestions? 1 is in Python the other in JS, so many options are available, but I'm not seeing a good one. Especially when timing matters, any pause will break the code. [link] [comments] |
Need advice on how to get a programming job Posted: 02 Nov 2020 03:45 PM PST Hello, I was studying electrical engineering for 2 years in a highly ranked university in my country. It took me 1 year just to get accepted to it. Then certain life events led me to be a very bad student, eventually causing me to drop off last year. I wasted all the money I had, and too many years of my life there in the academy. Then I had to find a job and I did, but it was not related to computers. and I was fired because of COVID-19. Now I'm on welfare. I do love the field of CS and programming and computers and in general, cyber and so on. I wanted to know what can I do if I want to get a job in this field if I do not have a degree? Online courses on Coursera, Udemy.. etc? But then I have no idea how do interviews work. What kind of questions. Any place prepares you for interviews in this field? Anything that teaches you specific things at a good level enough to be accepted to a job in this field? For example I took Coursera Android Development but I just don't feel I'm good enough to go to an interview and do good there (Of course it doesn't have to be Android development, it was only an example for something I did) Thanks [link] [comments] |
Printing ID Cards from a Zebra Printer through a Web Application Posted: 02 Nov 2020 10:53 AM PST Background: I'm familiar with writing PHP web applications and have been tasked with writing an application which automatically prints ID cards based on form information, which is then stored in a database. The form/database aspect is no problem, but I am not sure how to go about communicating with the Zebra printer to print and format the ID card based on the information entered. Is anyone familiar with this? I have done applications which print PDFs automatically on known network printers and this is similar, but an ID card printer adds another level of complexity. I have looked into the Java SDK for Zebra printers but I am not very familiar with Java SDKs and it seems like overkill. It would be much easier if I were able to just organize the form data with PHP and send it directly to the printer. Maybe a web application is not the correct route and a desktop app would make more sense? Any advice is appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Programm that blurrs certain words or things while you are on a website Posted: 02 Nov 2020 02:00 PM PST Hey guys, I am relatively new to programming, I have some experience with c++ and python from studying physics and I have been wondering the following: Can I write a programm that I would activate while I am on youtube that blurrs out comments? I know you can disable comments on your own videos but I lately encountered the problem that I waste so much time reading youtube comments and lose all my hope for humanity reading them. So I thougt maybe I could disable comments on all videos and make a cool project out of it. So the main question: Is it possible? If so is there a library or something that lets my code "see" the screen? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:13 PM PST Solved I've been learning Python so I decided to try my hand at creating a Twitter bot. I applied for and was accepted as a Twitter developer under my long-running personal Twitter account. The idea behind my app is to scrape some data from my state's (US) official website periodically and tweet it out programmatically using a Twitter/Python library for ease. What I can't figure out is how to tweet from an account other than the one I started my developer account with (my personal account). I've created another account that I'd like to use to actually send the tweets but I haven't figured out how to have my app tweet from that account. Do I need to apply as a developer under that account too? Just seems a little odd since I can create many apps in my developer account, you would think that someone might want to Tweet from different accounts from their various apps. Am I missing something? Is the CS Degree or a Bachelors degree in general, worth it? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:22 PM PST (Posting on multiple subs) I'm suppose to start my BS CS degree next week (It will take about 2 ish years to complete it in total). I'm 23, I work full time, and I'm fully on my own. I am suppose to also do the program full time and I'm taking out some federal loans to help cover the degree costs. I currently only hold an associates degree and I've been self teaching software development for the past few months. I know the decision ultimately up to me - however, I am so conflicted. Is this worth it for me to do this degree and the loans, or should I just continue to self learn? I want to work in the tech industry as a software engineer/developer. I'm so worried about making the wrong decision. Both sides make good arguments (self taught versus boot camps versus degrees) and I just want to create stability for my self and future career. Bug with abstract generic class in C++ Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:20 PM PST Hello guys, I have a task to write generic abstract class List which allows storage arbitrary number of arbitrary elements (of the same type) in C++. The size of list is not limited. I've implement the methods. And now I need to implement class ArrayList from the class List and I need to implement all of the abstract methods (I must use C++ array, using vector, deque, lists is not allowed) I don't know what is wrong with my code because in main I get infinite loop and it just prints random numbers and zeros. Here is the code: Can someone tell me what is wrong with my code and how to fix it? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Is a timezone attribute redundant in object oriented design? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 11:41 AM PST is putting a class member called timezone redundant in a data model which has other datetime fields? There are other classes with purchase date and booking date on them. The reason for a new field called timezone was to determine location and if the behaviour of the data model should change if it is in a different timezone Is that bad practice because language like rails can synchronize datetime without having to looking up an explicit class? How much Python do I need to know in order to get a programming job? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 07:40 AM PST Hello, I have just started to learn python with this video. Are the concepts taught in 'beginners' tutorials enough to land a job? What is the general yardstick used to determine if someone has the sufficient programming skills required for a programming job? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Anyone change careers in their 30s? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 07:40 AM PST I'm really contemplating changing career paths. I got an associate's degree in EET in 2017. So far my experience is in electronics/maintenance technician roles. This consists of a lot less actual electronics than I anticipated. I'm not fulfilled or mentally stimulated in my job most days. I have been giving some serious thought to going into either networking or programming. Both are interesting to me and I have a basic understanding of them, but mostly because there is a better job market where I'm from and also the possibility of working remotely in the future appeals to me. Just wondering if anyone else has found themselves in this position. [link] [comments] |

[Android - Java] Looking for explanation why do some function calls work and some don't Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:14 AM PST Hello everyone, I've been given a task of recreating an Android app that connects to a smart watch and transfers data to a database based on the available SDK. I'm a bit confused about the function calls because it appears the same format of function call sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't. As I'm not as experienced in Android programming, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. For instance, This function works fine,
defined in the SDK as
but something like this isn't accessed
eventhough the SDK user guide defines the function as
