Comp Sci Degree Holders of Reddit...What’s It Like?

I'm going into computer science. Looking into working towards Astronomy. I have an idea of what I want to become. Someone revolving around Astronomy, maybe working at an observatory collecting data of different kinds.

But I know the best way to understand the field is asking real people who are already in the field.

Tell me about your work day, your work load, how much free time you have, your flexibility in your job, the income, and how fulfilled you feel working as a computer scientist. I greatly appreciate the feedback, it'll help pave my career.

Collatz conjecture news: Recently, I managed to verify all numbers below 2^68. The results confirm that the highest number occurring in the Collatz sequence starting at n grows to ca. n^2.

[R] Self-Supervised ‘Plan2Explore’ RL Agent Achieves SOTA Zero-Shot and Adaptation Performance

    Posted: 15 May 2020 05:28 PM PDT

Enter Plan2Explore — a self-supervised RL agent designed to quickly generalize to unseen tasks in a zero or few-shot manner. Evaluated on 20 challenging control tasks without access to proprioceptive states or rewards, Plan2Explore achieves SOTA zero-shot and adaptation performance. The novel agent is the product of researchers from University of Pennsylvania, UC Berkeley, Google Brain, University of Toronto, Carnegie Mellon University, and Facebook AI.

Here a quick read: Self-Supervised 'Plan2Explore' RL Agent Achieves SOTA Zero-Shot and Adaptation Performance

The paper Planning to Explore via Self-Supervised World Models is on arXiv.

    Introduction to Quantum Computing recommendations?

    Posted: 15 May 2020 10:43 AM PDT

    Hey Guys
I'm currently taking an Introduction to Quantum Computing course and with out going in to much detail, the lecturer responsible for the course isn't doing a great job at explaining things.
I was wondering if anyone can recommend any online courses, lectures or books that can introduce a student to the world of quantum computing.
    Thanks in advance

The University of Hertfordshire - MSc CS Online

    Posted: 15 May 2020 11:18 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I am looking into an online Masters degree in CS and came across this degree (listed in the title).

    https://www.herts.ac.uk/courses/msc-computer-science-online

I am wondering if anyone has taken this program and can give any insights?

It is geared towards non-cs majors, so my next question is if this program is an accredited Masters?

I know York University (UK) offers a similar program and I e-mailed them and asked this question and they did inform me that their online MSc CS is not an accredited degree.

The program is appealing because it doesn't have strict pre-reqs such as a CS Bachelor's degree or specific Calculus courses and such. But I am skeptical of paying 15k for a potential non-accredited degree.

    Any input is helpful.

    Automating repetitive tasks?

    Posted: 15 May 2020 06:05 PM PDT

I track my own financial data, and every day, I am going through about 50 stock charts in Fidelity Active Trader Pro and exporting each to a CSV file individually. Is there anyway I can automate this?

I'm a fresh graduate, and have been overwhelmed by the number of languages/frameworks out there. Calling out all experienced professionals, what worked out for you in the long term?
