Recruiters: please stop putting me through tests for skills I don't have. Posted: 15 Mar 2019 05:31 PM PDT It's been 3 times now in the last month where a recruiter has lined up interviews for roles where I don't have the skills the employer is looking for. 2 of these interviews required me to do tests, both of which I failed (one was with React, the other with Symphony both of which I made clear in my CV and to the recruiter that I don't have the skills). I don't get why recruiters do this - surely it's a lose/lose for everyone. The employers have wasted their time at the interview, it makes the recruiter look ineffective at their job of filtering candidates and it makes me look bad to the employer which possibly limits my chances of getting work with them in the future if I were to eventually learn the skills they need. If I say I have not worked with React but am keen to learn it means exactly that. I cannot build a react component in a 30 minute on-the-spot test. [link] [comments]

Would you think this is a scam? Posted: 16 Mar 2019 09:11 AM PDT So hello everyone, I wanted to buy a domainname. I found this local place near where you can 'register' domainnames for just 1 euro for the first year. I thought 'hey that's a good deal, let's do it.' That was until.. I 'registered' it and paid the 1 euro. What I actually paid for was literally only the domainname. There is no option to link it to my site. In order to do that, you need to pay for an extra plan 'DNS/redirect-service'. I felt misleaded when I saw that, since what I just bought is useless. What do you think about this? Would you say it's a scam or am I just dumb and is the normal way how this works? [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Mar 2019 03:57 PM PDT To start off a little bit about me. I graduated from technical school in 2016. I went for building and tuning high performance vehicles because fast cars have always been my passion. Not surprisingly though the job market isn't huge in that field. Because of this I've been teaching myself on and off about web development. I enrolled back in school last semester to keep myself focused on it and the degree wouldn't hurt either when looking for a job down the line. I completed my first semester with SQL and I'm now doing HTML/CSS (which is what I've been self teaching ). Now for the problem I'm having. I want to combine my passion with what I've been learning and turn that into a career. I'm trying to figure out how I can work on car computers and how to begin learning what I would need to know for that. I've reached out to programmers at companies like GM, HPTuners and SCT Tuning on LinkedIn and haven't gotten any replies from anyone. So how do I figure out the things I need to learn? I'd like to work on having that knowledge now so I'm more wanted when the day comes. I'm just trying to get ahead of the game and work my way into my ideal niche. [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Mar 2019 03:36 PM PDT So im thinking of doing a web app or maybe native mobile data collection app. The app, will collect data via sensors and then capture sensor data (temp, humidity, pressure etc) via a Mqtt hub store it locally and then sync it to a larger dataset in the cloud. I'm looking for a database with a small enough footprint that it can run in something like a Rpi , then later sync To a central server , preferably the same database engine. I know there's some commercial products but most are cloud only, and I want to be able to run my own central server for more flexibility, since not all remote locations have internet access. Codeanywhere for sale for $1.5M? Or is this a scam listing? Posted: 15 Mar 2019 05:30 PM PDT It's a private listing on Flippa, but the listing image shown quite clearly shows "Codeanywhere.com" in the text...its the image from the Codeanywhere home page. And the poster is "I B" the initials of Ivan Burazin (CEO). Listing: https://business.flippa.com/businesses/198/private-listing-saas-internet For...
..they sure didn't try very hard to keep it hidden. Seems almost like it has to be a fake/scam? Listing does have a P&L listed and such though. [link] [comments]
Best workflow for locally customizing someone else's website? Posted: 16 Mar 2019 02:55 PM PDT Maybe this is something only I care deeply about, but it just drives me crazy the level of difficulty website creators make their UX to be. It's almost necessary to be proficient in web and programming knowledge to get any use out of their site Obvious information or links or bulk actions anyone would need to perform are impossible. Does anyone know of a good workflow for modding sites? Something I can quickly hack up, verify, and permanently use? [link] [comments]

Why doesn't GitHub have messagging? Posted: 16 Mar 2019 01:30 PM PDT Just for collaborators though. Maybe it's just me, but whenever I feel the need to ask someone what they were thinking when they wrote their code, it's a actually a drag opening up a messaging app to ask them on another platform. Is there a particular reason why they don't have the feature? [link] [comments]

What's the name for the 90's - early 2000s tipe of web development? Posted: 16 Mar 2019 12:22 PM PDT I've been wanting since ages to develop a website inspired in the 90's / early 2000s, full of iframes, gifs and all that stuff. What's the proper name for this type of web design? More or less this type: https://melonking.net/melon.html?z=/home.html or the recent https://www.marvel.com/captainmarvel Thanks for your help! Showoff Saturday: Affordable Screenshot API with Email Actions, Webhooks and Zapier Integration Posted: 16 Mar 2019 12:17 PM PDT GetScreenshot: https://getscreenshot.rasterwise.com/ Hey there! I'm building an alternative to other existing services that allow you to screenshot pages. Some of the differentiated goodies: 1) Cheaper than other services/ 2) Ability to hook an email action after the capture is completed. 3) Ability to past a webhook endpoint. When the capture is completed it sends a POST request to that endpoint. 4) Highlighting of words and phrases. 5) Optimized rendering (still dealing with edge cases but wide support of rendering scenarios, and solving new ones as they come). What do you guys think? All feedback is welcomed! P.S: If you want to try it for free, please use this coupon: FREEMONTH5 / you would need to enter a credit card, but you can cancel at any time before the end of the first month. Question about using Gandi for email Posted: 16 Mar 2019 10:52 AM PDT I've been trying to find an answer for this but I can't seem to find it. Is Gandi's webmail SOGo able to connect to any email app like the standard iOS mail app? Also I'm assuming since Gandi uses SOGo they do not use Microsoft Azure what so ever? (I do not want my email service associated with Microsoft in any way) [link] [comments]
Struggling to get call backs and was wondering if I could get my resume and portfolio reviewed. Posted: 16 Mar 2019 10:50 AM PDT I'm applying for jobs mainly out of state and I haven't gotten any bites yet. Would love some feedback on my portfolio and resume. I deactivated the resume link so my personal stuff wouldn't be out there. Here's my portfolio and heres my resume https://i.imgur.com/nWHgGoT.jpg. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
